The VAUDE company was founded in 1974 by Albrecht von Dewitz. Behind this was a personal passion for mountain sports. In the early 1970s, the word "outdoor" was not yet commonly used in German and the founder was therefore constantly on a laborious search for high-quality and practical mountain sports equipment. This personal experience showed him the potential that lay dormant in the field of equipment for outdoor activities. Without further ado, he founded the company VAUDE. Incidentally, the name stands for the initials of the founder's surname v.D. and is pronounced "Faude". Over the years, a small one-man company became one of Europe's leading mountain sports brands. In 2009, there was a change of management when Albrecht handed over the company to his daughter Antje von Dewitz. VAUDE now sells backpacks and bags as well as sports clothing and accessories.
